The Story

Google Docs allows anyone to collaborate in real time, which can lead to some pretty amazing things. To prove this point, we've brought some famous authors back to life to collaborate with people inside a simulated Google Doc in real time. By simply typing, Edgar Allen Poe and others will join in to transform your writing into something funny and unexpected.

The challenge for this project was to create an intelligent mechanism that simulated real human collaboration. Using thousands of rules and a little trial and error, we were able to push the boundaries of the app engine and make it happen. We were especially excited about the use of HTML5’s ContentEditable teamed with modern JavaScript and Google Closure. This complex mix of tools let us exceed our own expectations to create something both fun and educational.

The Technology

The Results

This project seamlessly brings each author to life while showcasing the product benefits. It’s powered by intelligent logic that recognizes the context of what each user is typing and twists it in a fun way. The magic happens each time a user writes. It’s also a good example of how a project can demonstrate functionality and be entertaining at the same time.
