The Story

Our holiday season in New York City is pure magic. These are stories and tales that have resonated for generations and reverberate far beyond the retail stores that host these magical experiences. Our objective was to create technology that enhanced the immersive magic of the story and legacy of Saks 5th Avenue and its iconic Yeti.

We connected the customer's mobile device with the in-store storytelling, virtually bringing the user inside and into the story. A mobile site collected the user's information and created a Yeti name, which then led the user to select one of Saks iconic snowflakes and flick it into the window; then—voilà!—his or her snowflake instantly appeared inside the window! In the Yeti igloo, users were immersed in a fully rendered panoramic 3D world of snowballs, figure skating and Yetis living in a snowy wonderland.

The Results

The final screen of the Saks Yeti site informed visitors about a gift-with-purchase offer and prompted them to share their experience via Facebook and Twitter. As an in-store extension of the partnership, customers who shopped and spent more than $150 on their MasterCard between November 25 and December 24 received a 3D printed snowflake, courtesy of MakerBot.
