The Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid website takes viewers on a personalized journey to discover how electric and petrol hybrid technology can make a real difference to our everyday drive. Using the latest Google Chrome technology, the captivating experience asks visitors to input an everyday journey of their choosing. It then creates a simulation of their route by cleverly stitching Google Street View and Maps information together whilst simultaneously calculating fuel economy, CO2 emissions and range statistics.

The main objective was to relieve the perceived range anxiety associated with all-electric cars. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid combines the benefits of both electric and petrol hybrid engines. This first-of-its-kind website demonstrates this in a rich and immersive way and delivers a personalized experience for each visitor, directly based on their own everyday driving habits.

The Technology

The Results

The first Toyota microsite to rely entirely on Google Chrome. The ability of Google Chrome to access your computer’s graphics card allowed us to use WebGL to animate the Street View sequence. The site has the look and feel of a controllable motion-graphics video. As far as we are aware, calculating the range, CO2 and fuel economy of a car hasn't been tried before. This is the real beauty of the site.
