Ice skaters are on the lookout for interesting routes way before the ice is actually safe to skate on. And to be able to do that, Unox created the "skating app".

The Story

"Where to skate?" is therefore frequently heard at the slightest touch of frost covering our canal-flooded country. Ice skaters are on the lookout for interesting routes way before the ice is actually safe to skate on. And to be able to do that, Unox created the "skating app".

We were playing with the thought of how all the typical Dutch ice skating traditions from the past would translate to the 'now'. Could we gather all this in a single app? This was the basis of all the ideas we conceived: collecting stamps on the go, gaining medals, tracking your distance and speed and sharing pictures and courses with your friends.

The Results

Unox is a brand deeply rooted into Dutch hearty winter-based foods. To encourage this, the brand organizes New Year dives and other winter-related events. The skating app, though, offers a completely new way to engage and interact with the Unox brand and Holland’s favorite winter pastime. It allowed users to interact with the Unox brand at times which were previously unavailable through more traditional marketing. This established an emotional connection with the target audience and at the same time filled a void in the market to allow users to share their ice skating activities.
