One minute with … Hamish Davies
We spent a minute with Hamish Davies, global chief growth officer at Wavemaker. Watch to see what habit he’s had to break to become a more effective leader.
Hamish Davies: Hi, I’m Hamish Davies.
I am Chief Growth Officer at Wavemaker Worldwide and I’m also the Diversity and Inclusion Champion for the company.
Interviewer: And what does that mean?
Hamish Davies: It’s my job to make sure that diversity-inclusion is very much on our senior agenda.
Interviewer: Why do you love your line of work?
Hamish Davies: Because no day is the same, and I get to work with cool people.
Interviewer: What’s the best professional wisdom anyone’s ever given you?
Hamish Davies: Do something you love.
Interviewer: What has been the theme of your career?
Hamish Davies: Commitment.
Taking care of clients, and taking care of my people.
Interviewer: Which habit have you had to break to become a more effective leader?
Hamish Davies: Micromanaging.
Interviewer: When you hit a creative block, how do you unstick yourself?
Hamish Davies: We work on the River Thames, so I just walk down the river.
Interviewer: Which industry hot topic do you wish we would stop talking about?
Hamish Davies: D&I.
Because if we solved the D&I issues, we wouldn’t have to talk about it.
Interviewer: If you hadn’t chosen this career path, what do you think you’d be doing right now?
Hamish Davies: I would have liked to have been an architect.
Interviewer: How do you inspire the next generation of creative minds?
Hamish Davies: Give them good challenges, and then give them the time and resources to go and find solutions themselves.
