The Story

Typography is everywhere. All of it is inspiring in one form or another. Capture it. Tag it. Type with it. AMPERGRAM allows users to create typographic compositions using Instagram photos. Capture and tag your own, or use the community's. The content AMPERGRAM could create became more expressive the longer users interacted with it. From the first line of code, this process had to be efficient. Linking to smaller versions of the requested Instagram photos during typing kept quickness up and file data down. The delivery of typographic images was focused through a dynamic reveal, directly in the area the user was typing. Additionally, adding the option to cycle through all results of the same letterform allowed for the exact final creation the user was intending. These aspects gave the user a sense of complete control over the content of the cube. It was developed with a Flash front-end, utilizing PHP and WordPress.

AMPERGRAM is a completely unique experience of interacting with photos and exploring typography from all over the world. AMPERGRAM has been featured on design and typography blogs including Adobe, Swissmiss, and Creative Bloq and has been awarded an FWA Site of the Day. Personal ampergrams, such as I Love You and Happy Birthday, have been shared by users from 119 countries. Not only is there now a product to utilize existing images of typography, there is a reason to capture more. AMPERGRAM proves that it does not take a team to launch a successful product: just the will of one person.
