The Story

The Brazilian economy is growing and so is the number of students and professionals coming to the country. As most of these foreigners don‚t speak Portuguese, they can‚t understand what‚s happening on local TV. So we decide to make their lives a little easier by creating a tool to provide subtitles for Brazilian TV in any language.

First we hooked up a computer to the TV using Arduino boards. The computer captures the closed captions from the major Brazilian TV channels and uploads the data to our the server in real time. Then the browser translates the original captions in Portuguese into any language using Google Translate.
