"All journeys have a secret destination of which the traveler is unaware," said Martin Buber. As it‚s never easy to make a project or a film that evokes personal emotions and is built from Facebook content, the approach for this project was clear: keep it simple. Allowing a journey from point A to B, whether that was from LA to NYC or from London to Toronto, had to be perfectly seamless as well as capture the nostalgic feel that any good holiday album would create.

The Story

"All journeys have a secret destination of which the traveler is unaware," said Martin Buber. As it‚s never easy to make a project or a film that evokes personal emotions and is built from Facebook content, the approach for this project was clear: keep it simple. Allowing a journey from point A to B, whether that was from LA to NYC or from London to Toronto, had to be perfectly seamless as well as capture the nostalgic feel that any good holiday album would create.

A simple and intuitive scrolling creation tool and an interactive video and photo-based scrolling experience were combined. And as video can‚t be played inline on a mobile HTML5 site, we built a complex server-side infrastructure that processes user videos as well as static visual content from our library. Using Google Maps Street View images and Google Maps, we managed to create a bespoke Maps engine which utilizes the raw map images and combines them was created and allowed the user to pan and zoom smoothly.

The Results

Expedia: Find Your Story allowed users to find a new way to explore their most memorable trips. Journeys can create emotions on every scale, from heartbreak to euphoria, but here‚s the difference: Expedia manages to establish the voice of the user through imagery, music and interaction. And by Expedia: Find Your Story being a social networking tool, we have managed to build a way for people to share their most treasured journeys with their closest friends, interactively and in a playful, cool way.
