The Story

Heineken is '140 years young' and is celebrating this landmark anniversary by making its evolution since 1873 available online for designers everywhere to ‚remix‚ and design the next Limited Edition bottle.Within the Facebook app designers can get inspired by browsing through over 250 treasured images from the brand's 140 year past and pick their favorites to be downloaded and incorporated into their own designs. The Top 30 crowd-sourced designs will be exhibited at Milan‚s Design Week in April 2013 and the winning design will be part of Heineken‚s 2013/2014 Limited Edition pack.

The Your Future Bottle Facebook app invites designers to remix and reinterpreted images from Heineken‚s 140 year past into an iconic bottle of the future. Designers can browse images, add favourites to their ‚scrapbook‚ and download them for when they are ready to start designing.

Designers are then encouraged to submit their design and using a powerful combination of WebGL and HTML5 the application transforms the 2D design into a lifelike 3D bottle. The 3D bottle can be fully interacted with: rotating, turning and zooming the bottle to see every detail as if it were real.

The Results

No other website out there uses WebGL and HTML overlays in such a way that all the separate components of the site feel completely seamless.

Those who have submitted a design are rewarded with a super-realistic 3D portrayal of their design, allowing them to get one step closer to imaging what their design would look like in the real world.

After 2 months and without any supporting media the site already had 800 bottle designs uploaded from designers around the world. It acquired 103,000 visits from 132 different countries spending an average of more than 2 minutes on the site.
