The Story

For the first-ever TomorrowWorld, an international offshoot of the Belgian electronic music festival Tomorrowland, Google hired Jam3 to create a live-stream experience that was engaging, digitally mesmerizing and uniquely customizable. The brief was to create a desktop and tablet experience, as well as the event‚s YouTube channel takeover, that changed in real time as new performers took the stage. Visitors to TomorrowWorld got global access to the festival‚s music, interviews and backstage parties.

We used an array of Google services, including the App Engine, Calendar and YouTube APIs, as well as a custom-built WebGL 3D compositing engine to bring everything together seamlessly. Jam3 designed and developed an interactive experience that featured an incredibly dynamic WebGL scene (comprised of 3D models, particles, shards and image effects), a chat application (with moderation), a concert schedule viewer and manager, second screen connectivity, and a MotoX personalization tool.

The Results

For those who couldn‚t make it to the festival in person, TomorrowWorld TV provided an immersive online experience that gave fans exclusive access to those festival moments they didn‚t want to miss. An astounding 2.7 million people tuned in over three days to view the video stream, marvel over the dynamic backgrounds and engage in the interactive experience. Real-time chat capabilities allowed users to connect with friends and make new ones, as if they had attended the festival in person.
