The Trip is inspired by a real-life event. We met Jack Torrance during our holiday on American Samoa. He was a laid-back 80 year old with a weird sense of humor. Jack claimed that he was the mastermind behind the biggest hoax of the 20th century "_ the landing on the moon. Listening to him was a bizarre experience, the line between fiction and reality blurred. His story, that day, became the story of this project. The unbelievable story of an extraordinary man.

The Story

The Trip is inspired by a real-life event. We met Jack Torrance during our holiday on American Samoa. He was a laid-back 80 year old with a weird sense of humor. Jack claimed that he was the mastermind behind the biggest hoax of the 20th century "_ the landing on the moon. Listening to him was a bizarre experience, the line between fiction and reality blurred. His story, that day, became the story of this project. The unbelievable story of an extraordinary man.

The story isn't ordinary, so our approach wasn't either. We mixed digital and analog, non-linearity and linearity, an active approach and a passive one. You can watch, interact and listen to The Trip. The interactive film on iPad (desktop and mobile) is a chill-out road movie consisting of 11 chapters. The ten-minute cinematic version was edited using different footage. It‚s short and dramatic. You can even buy it on VHS! The soundtrack to The Trip, by Smolik, is a concept album (Vinyl and CD) full of references to the music from 1960s. Finally, The Trip is also a large-scale photo series.

The Results

Jack said, "Back in the 1960s, all I had was a couple of cameras and a few archaic computers. And that was enough to fool the whole world. And now... what are we? 2012?" The Trip is a story about a moon landing, but in a broader perspective, it is a story about technology and media. The project asks important questions about their role in our lives, presented in a tongue-in-cheek manner. The Trip has been a greatly received, winning many awards and reviewed by prestigious magazines and blogs. It‚s been invited to screen at film festivals internationally in 2013.
